In 2013 I was given the opportunity to work on the Barbie brand as a packaging designer. It was definitely a step out of my comfort zone but I got to work and lead some great packages from concept to finish. The following examples are Barbie packages that I either lead or played an instrumental role in developing.
I started working with the brand Bel Kazan back in 2011. Initially the relationship consisted of only lookbook layout designs but it quickly blossomed to line sheet layouts, line sheet photography, lookbook photography, photography direction, print designs, stationary designs, marketing decks, social media content, website design and web-programming. The brand is very nature inspired and prides itself on a rustic one of a kind quality you can't get from big box stores. The following are just a few examples of my work at Bel Kazan.
A logo and branding concepts for LA Food Routes; a resident in LA, that supplies restaurants in LA, with produce from sustainable farms grown near LA. Being a more environmenatally conscious client, the business cards are designed to be printed on recycled card stock to reinforce the conscious aspect behind the business with playful banter to help break the ice while staying on trend with the hipster-chic aesthetic of the areas serviced.
Linear Labs is the brainchild of Adrian Younge, a most talented producer/composer/musician in Los Angeles. His goal was to spread the word on Linear Labs' latest events, projects, and new collaborations online via website. The request was for a bespoke, clean, yet vintage vibe…I set out to deliver just that with a simple black and white scheme, vintage paper texture in the background, and a simple yet classy typeface choices . The three column approach gives enough room to display new packaged merch on the left, news and content in the middle, with media and social streams on the right to help promote all the great things Linear Labs is doing.
A full website redesign and reprogram from the ground up for Red Palms Villa located in Bali. Working from my home in Los Angeles required that I photo direct a photographer in Bali while I redesigned and coded the site in L.A. Having the opportunity to stay at the villa prior allowed for me to push some of the photography which resulted in some stunning images. The brief asked for a very modern, Bali infused, aesthetic so I kept the content to a minimum, used a very modern trendy typeface and allowed for the beauty of the photography to breathe and do most of the talking.
A small collaboration between a few fashion brands, LA Thread hosts a monthly pop-up shop & brunch at the wonderful Daily Dose Cafe located in the Arts District of Los Angeles. The team approached me for a logo design and social media flyer that would inspire their hipster afficianados to join the next pop-up.
Almond Kulture is a small brand that makes all sorts of goodies from...you guessed it! ALMONDS! They approached me for a logo that would easily transcend it's limits by transferring over to simple packaging, business cards and consumer products in due time. With their main points of sale distributed amongst a few Los Angeles farmers markets, the client really wanted a vintage throwback to the days of yore that would resonate with the crowds at the farmers market without all the fuss and muss.
The Renaissance Project is a group of 4 individuals that are trying to raise money to support the growing arts movement within the youth in many various worldwide capitals. They approached me for an "online pamphlet" that would be distributed to their donors and explain this new project. They emphasized that they wanted to keep the color scheme to the project colors and specifically asked that I push the limits and make this design very edgy. I delivered by reinforcing the focus on youthful creative through the use of paint splatters and bold typography that reads loud as it should sound. The project aims to raise funds to encourage young individuals to pursue arts and/or film making.
